Neighborhood Guide · Jefferson County
A historic foothills town at the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon, fifteen minutes from the city and a world away.
Overview
Golden sits at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills in Jefferson County, about fifteen miles west of downtown Denver, where Clear Creek carves through the center of town. It is a historic landmark town, a college town, an outdoor-recreation hub, and one of the most desirable addresses in the metro, all at once.
The town blends genuine small-town character with quick access to the city, including the RTD West Rail Line that runs from the Jefferson County Government Center station straight to Denver Union Station. Housing ranges from century-old downtown cottages, bungalows, and Victorians near Clear Creek up to large foothill estates with panoramic views.
Market & Prices
The luxury market runs from roughly $1.3M for entry estates on Lookout Mountain and Mesa View up into the $2M to $3M-plus range for foothill properties in Genesee and Bear Tooth Ranch.

Golden is built around an active outdoor culture. Clear Creek runs through the heart of town, popular with anglers, paddlers, tubers, and runners, and includes a quarter-mile whitewater park. The town keeps more than 400 acres of open space and 24 miles of trails, with North and South Table Mountain for hiking and biking and Lookout Mountain for panoramic views and paragliding.
Washington Avenue, the walkable downtown spine, is lined with locally owned restaurants, boutiques, and breweries beneath preserved Western architecture. Community life runs through First Fridays, Buffalo Bill Days, the holiday parade, and the Golden Farmers Market.
Amenities, Landmarks & Schools
Golden's anchor institutions are the Colorado School of Mines, a top-ranked public research university; the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; and Coors, with its long-running brewery tours. Cultural landmarks include the Colorado Railroad Museum, the Golden History Museum, and the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave on Lookout Mountain. Red Rocks Amphitheatre sits just over in neighboring Morrison.
Schools fall within Jefferson County Public Schools and the Golden articulation area. Current ratings and boundaries are published by the district, and we would rather point you there than summarise them.
